Black
This stylish action crime thriller follows a second-rate black thief from Paris to Africa where he is supposed to steal some incredibly closely guarded diamonds. As in any “cool” modern action thriller, the hero is not the only one going after the diamonds – he is pursued by a variety of very dangerous bad guys. This independently produced debut utilises the highly polished style of French mainstream thrillers and action films and combines it with elements from the rich tradition of American blaxploitation films of the 1970’s and also mystical motives characteristic of African genre cinema. The main hero is played by MC Jean Gab’1, one of the most prominent French rappers, who also composed an exclusive single for the film.
