Day 4: film tips for Saturday evening
'Britcom' marathon Darkplace in Ponec Theatre, black crimi-comedy Perrier's Bounty in Cinema Aero or US drama Trash Humpers, described as ode to Vandalism by its author. All that is today's invite for tonigt.
Garth Marenghi's Darkplace
- Ponec Theatre, 8.30 pm
- about the sitcom
Garth Marenghi is a man’s man and brilliant writer. In the 80’s he wrote, directed, produced and played the lead in the revolutionary horror/action TV show Darkplace, about a hospital plagued by the supernatural. Even thought it was Marenghi’s first role, his performance, styled on James Garner and Chuck Norris, is phenomenal. However, in reality, Darkplace is nothing more than a sophisticated Britcom that uses a made-up pulp-fiction writer to celebrate genre clichés of cheap 80’s films and fiction, exploiting contemporary chauvinism, shamelessness of the authors and the brazen freedom of the subculture.
Perrier's Bounty
- Cinema Aero, 9.30 pm
- about the film
Michael McCrea had better think fast. He owes cash to the icon of the Dublin underbelly, the formidable gangster Darren Perrier. And Perrier’s henchmen have paid him a visit to clarify the consequences of defaulting. But there are simply too many distractions eroding Michael’s focus – the most prominent being Brenda, his attractive neighbor whose man has done her wrong, and Michael’s estranged father Jim, who has popped up out of nowhere to make several years’ worth of amends. Time is of the essence; they’ve got a body to hide, a car to burn, never mind the small matter of the bloodthirsty crime boss’s reimbursement.
Trash Humpers
- Palac Akropolis, 10.30 pm
- about the film
“I remember when I was a child there was a small group of elderly people who would hang out in the back alleys and under bridges by my house. They always seemed to be getting drunk and dancing, one night I looked out my bedroom window and saw a group of them humping trash cans and laughing. It sounded like they were speaking a strange invented language. This is a movie about them.” Harmony Korine
Koncert: Table
- Palac Akropolis (big hall), 8 pm
- Fresh Music Events
If you have watched already a couple of films today and prefer good drink and good music then go to Palac Akropolis for a concert of a band Table. Electro-synth post-punk duo released the album "We Are No longer the same" this spring. It sounds much better than most of the current Czech production. Each of their concerts is like an exact path traced to a disco kingdom where everyone froze and nobody can move. Only the dead disco ball keeps spinning over and over …
