Fresh Classics - Religulous, Gallants and Trash Humpers

The section Fresh Classics is where the FFF programmers choose films they think are worth seeing. This year, we're presenting debuts, retro and controversial films. Films Religulous, Gallants and Trash Humpers are some of them without any doubt.

Religulous

Popular American anchorman and comedian Bill Maher, known for his political commentaries and radical views, guides us through this hilarious documentary that challenges the world’s religions. Visiting famous religious sites and interviewing leaders of various religious groups, he uses his irresistible sarcasm to convince the viewer religion is dangerous and Jesus was probably just a very confused young man.

Gallants

A story about a bullied looser that becomes a disciple of two old martial arts masters is made in the grand style of classic 1970’s kung-fu movies. The story, following the typical formula of martial arts films, where the hero uncovers the essence of kung-fu, is enriched by a melancholic tribute in the style of “Rocky Balboa” (2006) to fictitious heroes and the aging actors portraying them. The old masters perform breathtaking action sequences without any use of special effects or stuntmen. Unlike the stubborn seriousness of Stallone’s latest film, “The Expendables” (2010), “Gallants” brings fresh humor and youthful perspective.

Trash Humpers

“I remember when I was a child there was a small group of elderly people who would hang out in the back alleys and under bridges by my house. They always seemed to be getting drunk and dancing, one night I looked out my bedroom window and saw a group of them humping trash cans and laughing. It sounded like they were speaking a strange invented language. This is a movie about them.” Harmony Korine
