CILECT RIFE 1977 - 1991

Despite the political situation following the Russian invasion into Czechoslovakia in 1968, the elite FAMU Prague film school succeeded to create, in the second part of the seventies, a somehow more liberal atmosphere within the institution. The director of the school of that period, Ilja Bojanovsky, intensively supported te idea of a group of progressive students, Jiri Adamec and Fero Fenic, to create an international festival of student films in Karlovy Vary.

CILECT

Bojanovsky has found support from various institutions, including the international film school organization CILECT (Centre international de liaison des écoles de cinéma et de télévision) and even engaged the students of Charles University's Faculty of Journalism to contribute to the festival.
The festival did run consecutively every two years in Karlovy Vary until 1991. Palme d'or winner Emir Kusturica, Oscar winner Jan Sverak were among the authors who presented their school films at the festival.
One of the creators of the festival, director and producer Fero Fenic, now runs his own festival, the Prague Febiofest.
